The "AGE" of Fashion

It's important to remember when new trends are popping up in stores to stick to the age old rule of Dressing Your Age. I can understand where someone could get lost amongst some of the flirty and fun styles that arrive on a weekly basis because I go there myself sometimes. Like last week, actually. I was shopping at H&M and found my arm like a hanger magnet filled with clothes within minutes and once I was inside the dressing room where I could focus, I realized that the time has come where I have to let-go of some trends because they are just too young for me. It's always better to sacrifice a look when it doesn't work and try something different.

I had grabbed a pair of black denim jeans to go with a tropical patterned-front zipper-mini t.

It's a great pairing and honestly looked pretty fabulous together, but something told me to try harder. Go for something a little less 'young' and get more classy with it. At that point I went Round #2 on the sales floor and ended up picking out the winning outfit that has age appropriate written all over it!

A pair of black harem pants matched with a burn-out, printed white tank. A pair of mini black heels or flats with this outfit works for any occasion. By adding on tons of accessories and a colorful clutch this outfit surpasses Option #1 by making more of a fashion statement.

The Modern Gypsies

Compassion is an amazing thing. To see other's care for the less fortunate and seek out their own adventures in life in order to live to the fullest is a rarity in this world, but it doesn't have to be rare. Especially if we have people like The Modern Gypsies to inspire us. Heard of them? It's a trio of friends, Eric Bach, Taylor Filasky, and John Post who decided to take their passion for adventure and try and make a difference around the world. The name, The Modern Gypsies, was chosen as they were first featured on ABC's Expedition Impossible, where they competed against 12 other teams in a race challenge in Morocco and won. This opportunity gave them the chance to utilize their exposure for the greater good. Now the MG's are partnering with Free The Children, an organization dedicated to helping children through education, alternative income, healthcare and water and sanitation in 45 different countries.

I find their ambition and curiosity for adventure to be incredibly inspiring. I believe these guys are making an impact and leaving a positive mark on this world. Right now, they are posting video's of their latest "Compassionate Adventure." If you have free time, take a look at what these guys are all about and see for yourself. And from Me to You "Thank You Modern Gypsies!"

TBT: Florida State Fashion Show 2006 (Elements of Fashion)

So in honor of ThrowBack Thursdays I went searching for some old photos to post on Facebook when I found a disc that had "Rachel's Fashion Show" written on it. I knew immediately what it was and had to watch. The design students at Florida State put together a Spring Fashion show every year with designers and models coming together to produce an amazing production. The year is 2006 (7 YEARS AGO!!!) and I was a freshman just trying to get involved. Many students and designs from some hard working (hopefully future) designers are featured in this throwback video filmed at The Moon in Tallahassee Florida! Enjoy.

*Thank you to Heather Kelly for some amazing designs and for trusting me to pull off the jacket maneuver!
